Saving face: The great multi-tasking benefits of Vitamin B serum

If there is one product that everyone should have in his or her skin care regimen, it’s a good quality vitamin B serum. We have long known about the benefits of vitamin B3 as a nutrient when it comes to a healthy body, but in the last decade, Niacinamide (vitamin B3), has been making a name for itself for its potent cosmeceutical benefits.

This multi-tasking ingredient is recognized for its positive effects on pigmentation, skin immunity, fine lines, acne, redness and dryness. Here, we delve deeper into the many benefits of using a vitamin B serum, and highlight what to look for in a good product.

The benefits of vitamin B serum for face and body

At Skin Elegance, we love the diverse and powerful benefits of vitamin B serum for face and body. Take a look at what a powerhouse this serum is, then go and add it to your skin care regimen!

Vitamin B3:

Boosts the natural immunity of the skin. Vitamin B3 works to prevent UV light-induced immunosuppression by bolstering the skin’s natural immune response. It has even been discussed for inclusion in chemotherapy for skin cancer treatment.

Reduces inflammation. Vitamin B3 is effective in reducing the inflammatory response of the skin, making it effective in the treatment of virtually all skin conditions.

Reduces hyperpigmentation. Niacinamide slows down the transfer of melanin from the cells that produce it, to the cells in the outer layer of the skin. This has the effect of signaling to the cells to stop producing melanin, resulting in a reduction in skin pigmentation.

Reduces skin yellowing. As we age, our complexions become dull and sallow as a result of constant exposure to free radicals and glycation, which is a process whereby the sugar in our skin links to skin protein. Glycation also has the effect of increasing the production of wrinkles by stiffening collagen. Niacinamide is an antioxidant and improves the skin’s ability to fight back, reducing the negative effect of oxidative stress.

Reduces irritation and redness, and improves barrier function. B3 improves the ability of the skin to protect itself by reducing water loss through the outer layer of the skin. B3 also increases the production of skin lipids, such as ceramides, and skin barrier proteins, such as filaggrin, involucrin and keratin. This has the effect of keeping the skin more hydrated and less prone to environmental damage and redness.

Suppresses excess oil production. Another benefit of a healthy, functioning lipid barrier, is that the skin is able to retain its natural moisture, which results in a reduction of excess sebum. This is good news for acne sufferers, who also benefit from B3’s anti-inflammatory properties.

Reduces fine lines and wrinkles. As well as improving the skin’s lipid barrier, niacinamide boosts the production of collagen and reduces excess glycosaminoglycan compounds, which has the effect of reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Protects skin from infrared light. Infrared rays from the sun activate free radicals in the skin and cause pigmentation. Niacinamide protects the skin from infrared exposure.

The best vitamin B serum

There are many different serums available on the market that promise to improve the texture of your skin, but the best vitamin B serum, is one that achieves that, without the help of hidden nasties. Some formulations include silicones in the form of dimethicone in order to smooth out lines and wrinkles.

The problem with dimethicone, is that it covers the skin, interfering with its natural processes. It is also thought to contribute to acne by trapping bacteria, sebum and other impurities.

Synergie Vitamin B serum contains high levels of the active ingredient, vitamin B3 (niacinamide). It is formulated to rejuvenate the skin, strengthening it against many different skin conditions such as pigmentation, dryness and excess sebum. Synergie Vitamin B serum also contains provitamin B5 (panthenol), which works to stabilize the skin barrier, plumping skin and reducing the appearance of fine lines.

All Synergie skincare products are free from questionable ingredients, such as dimethicone, parabens, phthalates, or artificial colors and fragrances, so you can be sure that as well as being effective, their products are also safe on the skin.

Synergie Vitamin B serum is an effective, and integral, part of their line of products to combat the dark spots and patches associated with hyperpigmentation. You can see more of the range here.

Incorporating a vitamin B serum into your skin care regimen

Niacinamide is well-tolerated by most people due to the fact that it is colorless and odorless, highly soluble and has low irritation and anti-inflammatory benefits. Even so, you should always patch test new products on a small area of skin, before fully incorporating them into your skin care regimen.

We recommend you use Vitamin B serum in the evening. Be aware that Synergie Vitamin B serum should not be used with vitamin C, or their Reveal serum. Vitamin C and niacinamide can cause the skin to flush when used together, and although the effect is only temporary, it is better to avoid combining the two products. Also, the acid nature of vitamin C and Reveal can make the Vitamin B serum ineffective.
