Looking for a natural makeup look? If you search “how to get a ‘no-makeup’ makeup look” online, you’ll find over 1.4 BILLION results – but rather than go through even a small fraction of them, here’s our guide.
Long gone are the days when makeup was meant to be gaudy, cakey, and bright, with layers of cosmetics applied to heighten someone’s complexion. And more recently, women are turning away from the heavily contoured look that found favor with certain celebrity families too. These days, people look for natural makeup techniques to get a subtle and super-flattering everyday look.
Creating a natural makeup look is like mastering the art of natural beauty. It helps you look fresh and lets you embrace a natural-looking glow, to help you feel confident in your appearance – which helps you feel confident in general. So, here we are with some game-changing and very easy makeup hacks for the best natural makeup look.
And here we go!
Wash It First!
Start with a clean palette. First wash your face properly with an effective but gentle cleanser. We have a number of choices for cleansing; our most popular one is Ultracleanse, which contains all pure ingredients and is free from ingredients with questionable safety records like SLSs, parabens, and artificial colors or fragrances. Take a pea-sized amount, massage gently into your skin, rinse and wipe off using a gentle cloth.
Moisturize Before Makeup
The second key skin care step for a completely natural makeup look is to moisturize your skin. This allow your skin to be soft and well hydrated but not greasy. Make sure you have the right moisturizer for your skin’s requirements. Even if you have oily skin, you should still moisturize; Hydrogel Light Hydrating Gel is the perfect choice. If you have large pores, go with BrightEnlite Milk Moisturizer – a lightweight formulation that blends essential antioxidants and marine extracts with botanicals in your skin to both hydrate and reduce the appearance of pores. You will get a perfect palette to begin your makeup. Take one pump of the moisturizer and apply all over your face.
Apply Foundation
Synergie has four different formulations of mineral foundation. For the lightest cover, choose BB Flawless, which is almost like a tinted moisturizer – except it’s way better, because it provides SPF15 sun protection, as well as 9% vitamin B3 (niacinamide) to nourish your skin too. BB Flawless gives the skin a dewy finish, but if you prefer a more matte look, you can use Hydromatt setting powder on top of the foundation. Apply BB Flawless with a makeup sponge or the Synergie Airbrush for a really smooth finish.
Second Skin Crush is Synergie’s loose mineral powder. It’s finely milled to provide natural cover (with no ‘settling in the creases’) and is also a great choice for the best natural makeup look. It has SPF40 sunblock, is talc-free, and also contains Vegesome™ (hydrating plant oils). Buff loose minerals into your skin in small circles, using a kabuki brush like the one Synergie sells; you can see a great video about how to use a kabuki brush on the Second Skin Crush webpage.
Synergie introduced SkinPressive to provide a pressed powder mineral foundation. It’s available in six colors, and includes licorice root extract to calm sensitive skin. There’s a sponge applicator within the compact (great for touching up your makeup while out and about), but we suggest using a kabuki brush for best coverage.
Synergie’s fourth foundation is Mineral Whip Cream to Powder. It’s a 4-in-1 product that works as a primer, sunscreen, antioxidant, and foundation. Of the three formulations it provides the heaviest cover, which is perfect for when you’re not looking for the most natural makeup look. (It’s Dr. Tracey’s preferred choice for special occasions.) It’s best applied with the Airbrush.
You can find the brushes mentioned here.
Concealer for Blemishes
Don’t let blemishes or dark spots go uncovered – but don’t overdo it!. Use a small brush to apply small amounts of concealer only to the problem areas such as blemishes or dark under-eye circles. Pat with your ring finger to blend the concealer in to the surrounding foundation.
Synergie Minerals Concealer is available in light/medium and medium/dark shades. It not only conceals well, but it also contains anti-inflammatory zinc oxide and soothing argan oil. To lift a dark undereye area, we recommend using Eyebrite, which has apricot tones to neutralize bluish dark circles. Both these products come with their own brushes to help apply them.
Use Blush And Bronzer Sparingly
Don’t go heavy handed with either blush or bronzer, if you’re going for the natural makeup look. Instead, use a light application of blush across the apple of the cheeks, sweeping up and out over cheekbones. Choose a less intense shade. HydroBlush in non-shimmer Peachy Keen is a great choice. For the most natural makeup look, a bronzer is not needed, but if you really want to use one, do so sparingly and keep to a matte product like HydroBronze in Natural. Use a broad brush to sweep the smallest amount of bronzer around the hairline of the forehead, down the bridge of the nose, and on the chin – spots where the sun would naturally light up your face.
Brush Your Brows
For a completely natural but groomed eyebrow look, you don’t need an eyebrow pencil or tint but rather, a spoolie brush. (In case you’re not sure that that is, it looks like a mascara brush.) However, if you feel your brows need some filling in, Synergie Minerals’ BrowPot is a pomade (with inbuilt brush) that can provide just the right amount of color to your brows – as long as you’re not heavy handed! Choose a shade that best matches your hair color.
Go Light On The Eye Products
For the sake of looking totally natural, skip the eye shadow and just use mascara. Vitalash mascara provides color (without using any tar-based pigment) and volume to your lashes – and also nourishes them with shea butter and argan oil. Curling the eyelashes before applying mascara gives even better results. Apply two coats of mascara to the upper lashes, and only a slight sweep to the lower lashes. If you simply can’t do without eyeshadow, EyeDration palettes combine three natural shades in five different combinations.
Keep Your Lips Natural
For a natural makeup look, avoid heavy or too bright lipsticks. Instead, opt for a luxurious, hydrating, and nourishing cosmeceutical lip gloss like Lipglo from Synergie Minerals that gives your lips a glass-like finish. Choose one of the lighter shades for the most natural look, such as Peach Perfect or Tea Rose. Alternatively, select a neutral shade from the LipSync lipstick range.
Now you are all set with a natural makeup look that not only makes you look and feel great, but – if you’ve used Synergie Minerals products – also helps protect and nourish your skin.
(And remember: if you’re looking for a less natural makeup look, Synergie Minerals also includes a full range of eyeshadows, eyeliners, lipsticks and lipliners, as well as shimmery blushes and bronzers too. Check out the full line of makeup products here.)
